Inside F1 racer Oscar Piastri’s private love story with girlfriend Lily Zneimer: ‘We keep it to ourselves’

Oscar Piastri is making waves in the Formula 1 sphere, and as interest in his talent on the track grows, so does interest in his personal life.

The young Aussie racer is fairly private about his life, but has “soft-launched” his girlfriend, who is known to be British student Lily Zneimer.

Who is Oscar Piastri?

Piastri is a 24-year-old Melbourne native who has risen through the ranks to become one of the most awarded rookies in the industry.

He has been racing since his teens, working his way up from Formula Four (usually for minors) all the way to Formula One in the big leagues.

He and his family currently live in England to support his career, with the athlete currently racing for British motor racing team McLaren.

Who is Oscar Piastri’s girlfriend, Lily Zneimer?

It was in England where Piastri is believed to have met his long-term girlfriend, British student Lily Zneimer.

The pair reportedly met while attending boarding school in Hertford, England.

According to Kym Illman, an Australian F1 photographer, “Oscar has been going out with Lily Zneimer for some years now.”

“Oscar introduced me to the British student in the paddock at the 2022 Australian GP when he was the Alpin reserve driver,” he said.

“She’s British, polite, quiet, classy and by the time you watch this, has probably graduated with a degree in engineering.”

Piastri told 9News in 2023 that the couple had been together for quite some time.

“We have been together for – I better get this right – about four and a half years now,” the now 24-year-old joked as he sat for an interview while attending one of the four tennis Grand Slam events at Wimbledon two years ago.

This means the couple were dating since their teen years, with many speculating it went back as far as Paistri’s F4 days.

The same year, he told the Eff Won podcast, “We keep it private, [but] not secretive like some relationships are,” he said.

“We keep it to ourselves and try to be out of the spotlight and just live normal lives.”

The couple have now been together for over six years.

In the true mark of a good relationship – at least at their age – they even have a meme about them.

It all started when they were photographed on a rainy day with Piastri holding an umbrella.

But what made fans pause and chuckle was that he was only holding it over his own head, leaving his poor girlfriend to get wet in the sprinkle.

“Bruh really didn’t share that umbrella and meant it,” one commenter joked. Another said the poor kid is “never going to get away from” the meme.

First public appearance

Zneimer made one of her first public appearances by Piastri’s side at the Autosport Awards of 2022, where Paistri won the Autosport Rookie of the Year Award for the 2nd year running.

He posted a photo with Zneimer to his Instagram while thanking his voters, but did not acknowledge or tag her in the post.

She was also seen at Piastri’s first F1 drive as the backup for the BWT Alpine F1 in 2022. After the race, she was the first to embrace him in a hug alongside his manager and mentor, Mark Webber.

He said at the time: “Having my girlfriend Lily here for the first time and attending my maiden Grand Prix in Melbourne with my pals makes me very pleased.”

Since then, Zneimer has been seen in public many times – mostly trackside with her partner’s team in places like Abu Dhabi, Italy, and Singapore, and by his side at events like Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

And, of course, she’s made some appearances on his Instagram account.

Illman added of her aspirations, “She wants a job in F1 and with her contacts, I’d say she has a strong chance of that. They are a delightful couple.”

The couple remain private, but this hasn’t stopped Piastri from gushing about his long-term partner.

In a podcast appearance in 2023, he shared about Zneimer “It’s been nice to have someone there from the start that’s still with me.”
